There is no doubt that alcohol is an integral part of the traditional bachelor party. More beer, more strippers, more everything!, cries the proudly party-driven host. In fact, some organizers may feel a certain amount of social pressure to deliver the Craziest. Blowout. Ever.
The secret that stubborn bachelor party aficionados will never admit is that it is possible to have fun and healthy (or healthier, anyway) bachelor party.
These six tips will show you the way.
1. Create Motion
Insert an activity into the plan that will encourage partygoers to put down the glass. Things like golf can, at the very least, transition the focus away from drinking.
2. B.Y.O.B
You can’t stop people from bringing the party with them, but if you send out the message that drinks will not be provided, it helps defuse the encouragement of booze.
3. No Drinks Allowed
Organize a portion of the event to take place in an area where drinks are limited or discouraged, like an amusement park or public park. Again, people may choose to indulge, but the focus will not be on the drinks.
4. Top-Shelf Entertainment
Try planning the evening around a concert featuring the bachelor’s favorite band, or some other type of performance art. You won’t be able to stop people from drinking there, either, but that’s not really the point.
5. Take to the Sea
Chartering a boat for a bachelor party can help in a few ways. First, you can stock it with a limited amount of drinks. Two, you can schedule it for a daytime voyage, when drinking is traditionally less of a focus. Finally, you can create activity that calls for putting the drinks down, like sport-fishing, skiing, etc.
6. Class, Class, Class!
Create and maintain an environment that discourages getting sloppy drunk. Try planning a night at an upscale venue with lots of posh (yet hip) clientele who help you establish an atmosphere of fun yet responsible partying.
Of course, at the end of the day it is up to the bachelor, so if it’s your lucky day, think about suggesting some of these tips to the man charged with orchestrating the party of your life.
We’d love to hear from our readers on this one. What tips would you add? What did we miss?
Of course, I should remind everyone that our blog entries are for your information only and are not intended as medical advice. Because everyone is different, you should work with your medical professional to determine what’s best for you. If you’re going to drink, do it legally and responsibly; don’t be stupid =).
